Military Service
Military Service
Under the U.S. Military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue, Don't Harass" policy, same-gender loving, gay, lesbian and bisexual service members are not allowed to serve openly. Current military regulations also medically disqualify transsexual men and women from service. And at a time when we should be valuing our soldiers and veterans, Black women are discharged under the military’s anti-gay policies at far greater rates than they should be given their representation in the military.
This costs them their jobs and their benefits. That’s unfair. Discrimination is wrong, especially when it costs someone a chance to nobly serve their country.
Given that Blacks are 15% in the Army, 23% in the Marines and 11% in the Air Force, the National Black Justice Coalition is working with allied organizations to educate members of Congress and the public about the contributions of same-gender loving service men and women.
