Black Legislator Continues to Make Political History

State Rep. Jason Bartlett (CT)

WASHINGTON, DC---In February 2008, Connecticut State Rep. Jason Bartlett made history when he came "out as gay" thus making him the highest ranking openly gay African American politician in the country.

Today Bartlett continues to make political strides as he now runs unopposed within the Democratic field for reelection for his house seat.  On May 20, the 2nd District Democratic Party of Connecticut unanimously re-nominated Rep. Bartlett for his current seat. He will now run against a republican challenger in November.

H. Alexander Robinson, NBJC CEO:

We look forward to continuing our social justice work with Jason as well as supporting him in his work to ensure that fairness, justice and equality are carried out throughout Connecticut.  Rep. Bartlett's being unanimously nominated is further evidence that people of his district feel he is the best candidate to serve them. Further, it also speaks to the hard work and dedication that Rep. Bartlett provides to his constituents.
