Award tonight at Power of Us Convention

The National Black Justice Coalition is pleased to announce that its Chief Executive Officer, H. Alexander Robinson has been selected to receive the Andrea Goodman Freedom Prize Award and will be honored tonight during the Power of Us Convention in Baltimore.

 

The award is named after Andrea Goodman, a civil rights worker who was murdered in Philadelphia, Mississippi in 1964.  The honor is bestowed annually to an individual or organization that has made valuable contributions to civil and human rights.

 

Robinson will be honored during the Power of Us Opening reception at 7pm tonight. The event is free and open to public.  Earlier in the evening another free and public Power of Us Event, “Black LGBT Entertainment & Q&A” starts at 5pm.

Day 1: Health & Summit

 

Total wellness is the focus of the day which focuses on health disparities of African-Americans and its impact on Black LGBT along with an emphasis on financial planning and investing. Sessions also include a focus on transgender and women’s health issues.

 

Day 2:  3rd Annual Black Church Summit

 

A series of workshop trainings and plenary sessions focused on challenging religion based homophobia with insight and inspiration; a discussion of the state of the Black Church as it relates to LGBT people; political empowerment and social justice ministries.

 

Day 3: Leadership Development & Mobilization Summit Track

 

Political strategizing and building broad based coalitions will be the key focus of this day along with discussions on the future of the Black LGBT community plus the need to push for additional legal rights for LGBT couples and their families.
